At PRISM we love to explore the places that only locals know, so who better to speak to than some of the city’s most celebrated influencers. Here we ask blogger Linda Tol, a Dutch native who moved to Milan and has never looked back! Read on for Linda’s tips on what to do when you’re in town.
3 places that define the spirit of Milan? The Duomo – Dedicated to Saint Mary Nascent, it’s the largest cathedral in Italy. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele – Built during the late 1800s, it is one of the oldest enclosed shopping malls in the world. The Sforzesco Castle – It exemplifies the fierce rivalries between families in Renaissance Italy.

How does your work shape your experience of Milan? I moved to Milan almost two years ago.I travel a lot so I’m still exploring! I love walking through the city, especially the Sant’Ambrogio area where I live. I love Tortona and Navigli too.
For someone visiting Milan for a day, what’s your must-do? Start with a traditional Italian Breakfast at Pasticceria Cucchi, then walk down via Torino to the Duomo – it’s a 20 min walk.
After visiting the Duomo, go to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, then on to Piazza della Scala, where you can see the world’s most famous opera house.
From here, take via Manzoni then turn right down via Montenapoleone. You can’t leave Milan without shopping, so explore via Montenapoleone, via Sant’Andrea and via della Spiga. Stop for a lunch at Pasticceria Marchesi too.
After lunch walk to Brera. Stroll the old cobble stone streets full of antiques shops and art galleries. From Brera you can walk to Castello Sforzesco. Then walk back towards Cadorna, passingtwo of the oldest and most important churches of Milan – San Lorenzo and Sant’Ambrogio.
Keep on walking to the Navigli district where you can enjoy an aperitivo at Mag Cafe – the best place for some well-earned cocktails!

What inspires you about Milan? You have to get to know Milan to enjoy it. It’s full of interesting contradictions, culture and history.
